The New Open Studio: What's Changed and What to Expect
We rebuilt Open Studio around one question: what should I practice on next? Here is what is new and where to find it:
Your New Home Dashboard
You now have a dedicated dashboard for your instrument, automatically set based on your profile. When you log in, you will land exactly where you need to be to start your next lesson.
- Return home anytime by clicking the Open Studio logo in the top left corner of the page.
- Change your home by navigating to your desired dashboard in the Explore menu, then clicking Set as Home (the little house with the plus sign).
Pianists have dedicated dashboards for three levels. You can switch anytime, as the weekly Foundations & Expansions lessons follow the same curriculum.
| Level | Dashboard | Description |
| Beginner | Jazz Piano Foundations | Build your first jazz vocabulary: chords, scales, and tunes you can play start to finish. |
| Intermediate | Jazz Piano Expansions | Start sounds like yourself: colorful voicings, creative improv ideas, and the confidence to sit in at jam sessions. |
| Advanced | Jazz Piano Method | Tell your story through music: harmonic depth, melodic phrasing, and your personal voice. |
Inside the Piano Dashboards
Our piano dashboards begin with a starter course:
- Beginner: Jazz Piano Jumpstart (7 lessons with Guided Practice Sessions).
- Intermediate: Jazz Piano for the Bandstand (3 lessons with Guided Practice Sessions).
- Advanced: Jazz Piano Method Kickstart (A curated selection of the 600+ lesson library).
You will also find:
- A new lesson every week covering jam session tunes in 6-week cycles.
- Skill pathways to target specific areas like improv or rhythm.
- A core pathway organizing courses from where you are to where you want to go.
What Else is New
- Guided Practice Sessions (GPS), PDFs, descriptions, and keyboard shortcuts are now directly below the lesson video in the Materials tab.
- Old bookmarks have transitioned to the new site. Bookmarks previously set on individual GPSs now appear on the parent lesson.
- Lessons with multiple videos or GPSs will not be marked complete until you have watched them all.
- Hit the Share button to paste a lesson link into The Hang. You can even link to a specific timestamp.
