What Skill Level Am I?
We’ve organized our courses into three levels to help you figure out exactly where you fit in.
Beginner: "What do I play?"
You can play your instrument at a basic level, but you’re just getting started with jazz. Maybe you’re coming from a different genre, or maybe you've never seen a lead sheet before.
- You’re looking for step-by-step guidance on jazz concepts and terminology
- You want to learn your first few standards without feeling overwhelmed
- You need a clear roadmap, so you know what to practice
Intermediate: "How do I sound better?"
You’ve got the basics down and want to build your confidence when playing with others.
- You’re ready to start soloing and learning "must-know" tunes so you can hold your own at jam sessions
- You want to start "speaking" the language of jazz with better phrasing and swing feel
- You’re looking to bridge the gap between "practicing" and making music with other people
Advanced: "How do I make my playing ME?"
You have a strong handle on harmony and improvisation. At this stage, you aren't looking for more "rules," but inspiration to refine your personal sound.
- You want to dive into deeper improvisation concepts used by your favorite players
- You’re seeking more freedom, imagination, and fearlessness in your playing
